"Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before obscure men."
There are a number of observations that are striking about this proverb.
A person with superior skill will be noticed. You cannot truly hide genius.
A person should work hard at finding what they are truly skilled at. Many spend all their time trying to be skilled at what they have no aptitude for.
A skilled person wants to do his craft before leaders and not before those who are unknown and non-influencial.
Just as David's harp playing made its way in a wonderful circuit of serendipity to the ear of the king, so those that can truly demonstrate superior skill in a work will be noticed
It is interesting that our culture is all about being skilled at entertainment or leisure and not work. Does what you are skilled at really have any value in it?
Do not believe that you can be skilled at anything if you just set your mind to it.
All of us have limitations or things that we are not skilled at. It is as important that we discover what those are as we discover what we are truly gifted or skilled at.
The word skilled carries with it practice, learning, training, improvement. Those who are truly gifted are those who hone a special trait. Gifted people who do not develop their gifts are everywhere.
Oh God, I want to be a man who develops the gifts that you have given me and uses them for your glory to influence many people to sing your praises.
Until tomorrow,
Gil Stieglitz
