"But his delight is in the law of the Lord and in His Law he meditates day and night"
delight
This is the Hebrew word chephets, which means pleasure, delight, pleasant, desire. The idea here is clearly that the person who wants to be transformed and enjoy God's blessings on their life will have an internal celebration about what they will find in the Scriptures. The word delight brings to mind the emotion that you feel when you think of having a dish of your favorite ice cream. When the person feels that level of emotion about the wisdom, truth, direction, blessings, and correction that they find in the Scripture, then they will be transformed.
To take delight in the Scripture you must develop an acquired taste for it. It does not just come over you and then you can't wait to read the Bible. I have for many years taught people how to study the Bible and when they grasp the wonder and depth and insight in the Scriptures, they are drawn in. They still have to make time in their schedule. They still have to apply the truths to their lives, but it has become clear to them that there is much to delight in within the Scriptures. The person who would be transformed by the word approaches the Word of God like a treasure box in which there is always a different kind of treasure waiting to be discovered and used.
I find that each day when I open the book and study the Scriptures for the truths that God wants to share with me, I am amazed at how much it fits my day and how important it was for me to know that information that day.
Take delight in God's Word and let it be the place your mind returns to again and again. Set aside 30 minutes every day and let God teach you about life.
Until tomorrow,
Gil Stieglitz
