Breakfast with Solomon - Proverbs 20:20

"He who curses his father or his mother, His lamp will go out in time of darkness."

As a youth pastor I have watched the sad truth of this verse a number of times. Those rebellious kids who do not pay attention to the counsel of their parents – and even worse they curse, sass, swear, and ridicule their parents – always make the worst decisions. Often they only have their friends to rely on, and they are being supported in moving into the jungle of sin.

I was very encouraged to see my daughters listening to their mother and being willing to do the chores and work around the house. I was concerned years ago when one moved toward this “I'm too cool to pay attention to my parents.” Thankfully that attitude largely vanished.

I do not want to see my daughters get to the place where they have an important decision in their life and then have no source of light and direction. If they reject us and other wise adults around them, they will then be rejecting God's wisdom. I see a bright future for all of them.

Until tomorrow,

Gil Stieglitz
