"The wages of the righteous is life, the income of the wicked, punishment"
the wages of the righteous is life
A person earns or receives – as compensation or consequences – a particular type of life. The type of life that the person who is righteous receives is full of relationships and blessings.
the income of the wicked is punishment
On the other hand, the compensation that the wicked receive is punishment. These are those who have pushed the limits of their selfishness until it has become morally reprehensible. “It is all about Me” is their motto. They live beyond moral lines. They lie, steal, cheat, slander, intimidate, rebel, etc. The irony is that they think they are pursuing what they want, but instead what they gain is really a whole lot of people who secretly or openly hate them.
This proverb states that selfishness has consequences and it is not a great life. It is actually a life full of people against you. It will feel like everyone is against you when you choose a life of wickedness.
