Breakfast with Solomon - Proverbs 16:9

Proverbs 16:9

"The mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps."

It is clear that while we can and should plan, everything that we plan will not go according to our plans. We must realize that at any time God can intervene and move our lives in a direction that is completely different from our hopes, dreams, or plans. We get the most frustrated when we do not take into account that God can change our plans at any time. He can overrule even the best laid plans. It is wise if we take this sovereignty that God possesses into account when we plan. The Scripture says that we should roll our plans to the Lord or pray them through completely with Him.

The two most practical questions that can be asked following an understanding of this verse are:

  • Are you taking into your planning the sovereignty of God?

  • Where have you seen God direct your steps differently from your planning?

You must be able to do both things – sense the direction and movement of the Spirit of God in planning and embrace the mid-course corrections of the hand of God.

Until tomorrow,

Gil Stieglitz
